A Change for the 2026 Annual Writers’ Residency
As we celebrate 39 years of nurturing inspirational artistry and innovation, The New Harmony Project announces a one-year evolution in our annual writers’ residency program — one that honors our origins, supports our alumni writers, and sets a purposeful course for this milestone year. For the 2026 Writers’ Residency only, NHP will only accept applications from alumni writers who are developing film and television projects.
In 2027, when we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we will return to an open application process.
A Year Dedicated to Our Alumni Community
In tribute to nearly four decades of creative excellence, the 2026 residency will be open exclusively to alumni writers — celebrating the talented artists who have contributed to our legacy, and honoring our commitment to nurturing our community of alumni writers. This temporary shift enables us to provide a more intimate, targeted residency experience that deepens our commitment to our community.
In a meaningful full-circle moment, the 2026 residency will focus on film and television writing — revisiting the foundational vision that shaped The New Harmony Project from the very beginning. This special, one-year focus allows us to reconnect with our origins while supporting the evolving creative journeys of our alumni.
The 2026 residency will be limited to a cohort of 10 writers, ensuring focused dramaturgical support, pitching opportunities with industry mentors, and a balance of creative rigor and rest. This residency is designed as a unique, concentrated chapter in The New Harmony Project’s ongoing story.
A Transitional Year with Transparency and Vision
While this residency structure represents a temporary, one-year shift responding to the realities of arts funding and our approaching 40th anniversary celebration, it positions The New Harmony Project to continue evolving thoughtfully. We remain committed to supporting writers across all disciplines and look forward to returning a broader residency format in 2027 and beyond.
Applications for the 2026 residency will open in September, exclusively to alumni writers developing film and television projects. We warmly invite all eligible alumni ready to engage in this special residency experience to apply.
Thank you for being part of The New Harmony Project’s vibrant history and future. Here’s to celebrating 40 years—and many more—to come.
