Lina Patel

Lina Patel (she/her) is a writer whose work interrogates family structures, and relationships in a precarious world. Her near-future drama, The Ragged Claws, about what happens when the adopted Indian son of a power couple questions his mother's politics, was nominated for Cherry Lane Theater’s Mentor Project. Select plays include, Sankalpan (Desire), an adaptation of Chekhov’s Three Sisters (RADAFest London, 2019); Bonobos, a darkly comedic Tarantino-esque telenovela for the stage about female friendship, work-shopped with Artists at Play in Los Angeles. Lina was awarded an NEA Art Works grant for her theatrical romp, The Half-Breed Spy, or How I Learned to Love Imperialists, an excavation of the colonial psyche at turning point in history. Lina has been commissioned/produced/developed by Yale Rep, Chalk Rep, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Silk Road Rising, New Group, The Lark, East West Players, Sewanee Writers Conference (Walter E. Dakin Fellow), The New Harmony Project, Center Theater Group, Circle X Theater, the Japanese American National Museum. She recently collaborated with Jennifer Chang on an adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing for Pomona College, opening Spring, 2021. Lina also writes for television, previously two seasons on DC’s excellent but cancelled show, Krypton; currently for Ava DuVernay's anthology series Cherish the Day, premiering in 2022.
