S1, E1: Meredith Stiehm and Mead Hunter

Meredith Stiehm most recently joined The New Harmony Project as a writer in residence in 2016. She had previously participated in the conference in 2009 and 2011, and we were thrilled to have her join us to work on her play, Black Rose.  She sat down with Artistic Director, Mead Hunter, at the Poet’s House in historic New Harmony, IN to discuss the creation and nurturing of new written works.

Meredith’s plays include: Black Rose, Stoner and Spaz, Mad City, Sweetface, Sophia Mars Is III, Between the White Curtains, Hallelujah Junction. She wrote the book and lyrics for the musicals Women in Love and Rules For Girls. Her short play The Meeting was produced in the Circle X one-act play festival, and her 10-minute play Hunger was a finalist for the Heideman Award. Mad City was workshopped at The New Harmony Project, and presented at the La Mirada Theatre in Los Angeles. Television credits: Homeland (Showtime), for which she won an Emmy Award; co-creator of Peabody Award-winning The Bridge (FX); and creator of the drama series Cold Case (CBS). She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in English/Playwriting.
