WHO WE ARE

THE NEW HARMONY PROJECT AT A GLANCE

The purpose of the New Harmony Project is to create, nurture, and promote new works for the stage, television, and film that sensitively and truthfully explore the positive aspects of life.

The New Harmony Project brings talented writers to the town of New Harmony, Indiana, for two weeks in the spring to develop and promote scripts in a supportive environment. We surround them with professional resources, a community of supportive people, and guide them through an evolutionary process of creative development for their works.

The scripts that we seek to support explore the human journey by offering hope and showing respect for the positive aspects of life.

We assay the integrity of the work we support by asking, “What does it do? Does it do it well?” Briefly, it should name, celebrate, honor and praise order in the midst of chaos; life in the midst of death; atonement in the midst of separating hatred; liberty in the midst of oppression; sacrifice in the midst of vanity; and spirit in the midst of corruption.

WHAT OUR FRIENDS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE NEW HARMONY PROJECT

The New Harmony Project is writer’s heaven: creative freedom. Artistic challenge. Community support. My work excelled at New Harmony. My life was enriched. I did not leave unchanged.

Scott Teems, Writer in Residence

We all come together in a communal experience, where we’re all sharing a common goal – to make meaningful and enlightening work that will have a positive impact on the world.

Carrie Preston, actress, True Blood, The Good Wife

In a time and in a society that is particularly dark for so many legitimate reasons, to find a place that is focused on finding the light is really unique and really important.

Jason Gray Platt, writer
